Raster Map
Overview
FancyRoute supports two kinds of image formats. Vector maps and raster maps. A raster map is basically an image that has been enhanced by additional calibration information.
Raster maps often look nicer than vector maps but cannot be used for auto-routing because they don’t contain routing information.
Their biggest advantage is surely the simpleness of creation.
Show Raster Maps
In order to show raster maps in the map pane select ‘Menu-Map-Navigation-Raster Maps’ or use the related button in the Navigation toolbar.
FancyRoute handles multiple raster maps as overlapping, stacked layers that are arranged according to their map scale. Use ‘Menu-Map-Navigation-Next/Prev Map’ or use the Navigation toolbar (4th and 5th button, see image above) in order to walk the layers up or down.
Sources of Raster Maps
Turn a Photograph into a Raster Map
Every photograph, picture or scan can be turned into a raster map. Even a photo of an ancient map can be converted. In order to do so it has to be calibrated. The calibration procedure can be found here.
Download a Raster Map
The second source of raster maps is public available map servers. Particular areas can be downloaded as map tiles. The download procedure can be found here.
Raster Map Preferences
In ‘Menu-Options-Preference-Raster Map’ the basic settings can be found. This is mainly the base folder and some settings regarding the digital ground model (DGM) that is supported by FancyRoute.
